Diana Marua Criticizes Street Families for Rejecting Her KSh 1,000 Donation

Content creator and YouTube star Diana Marua has voiced her frustration after a recent encounter with street families in Nairobi turned sour when they rejected a KSh 1,000 donation she offered during a traffic jam.

Sharing the experience on her Instagram stories, Diana said she was shocked by the entitlement shown by some individuals, who not only demanded more money but also dismissed her effort to help.

The Unexpected Encounter on Uhuru Highway

The incident unfolded as Diana was caught in a traffic snarl near the University of Nairobi, with the gridlock lasting around 15 minutes. During that time, a group of street families recognized her and surrounded her vehicle, requesting money, food, and essentials for their children.

“If I could, I would scream. The audacity people have in Nairobi, especially beggars!” she said.

According to Diana, some of the individuals began banging on her car doors while shouting her name and listing what they wanted—ranging from money and food to diaper money.

From Generosity to Backlash

Moved by their requests, Diana decided to help. She asked for a mobile number and offered to send them KSh 1,000 to share among themselves. Initially, the group claimed they had no number, but eventually one was provided.

Just as she was about to send the money, another individual rudely interrupted, questioning the amount.

“Someone came out of nowhere and said, ‘What is Sh1,000? What will it help us with? Give us Sh10,000,’” she recalled.

“I Work Hard for My Money”

The comment deeply offended Diana, who reminded her followers that despite her public image, she works tirelessly for what she has.

“You’ve not broken a leg. You have a mouth and the ability to walk and work. I wake up early, create content, hustle to make a living—then someone tells me KSh 1,000 isn’t enough?” she said.

“Beggars Are Not Choosers”

Frustrated by what she described as rude and entitled behavior, Diana chose to withdraw her offer entirely.

“I told them beggars are not choosers. You don’t get to dictate how much you should receive. If you’re asking for help, do it with manners.”

The incident has since sparked conversations online, with many netizens weighing in on Diana’s sentiments and the expectations placed on public figures.
