UDA delegation flies to Uganda for weeklong engagement with Museveni’s NRM party

United Democratic Alliance (UDA) delegation on Wednesday, February 5, 2025, jetted out of the country to meet with officials from Uganda’s ruling party, the National Resistance Movement (NRM).

The UDA’s team was led by party Secretary General Hassan Omar who left the country in what they described as a high-level consultative meeting.

In a statement, UDA through its official X page disclosed the team will pitch camp in Kampala for a whole week where matters of mutual interests will dominate their deliberations.

“UDA Party Secretary General Sen. Hassan Omar is leading a high-level party delegation for a consultative meeting with Uganda’s ruling party, National Resistance Movement (NRM),” UDA’s party’s statement read in part.

“The UDA team, which will be in Kampala for the whole week, will engage their NRM counterparts in discussing matters of mutual interest to the two parties and the friendly countries,” it added.

Meeting Museveni

As part of their series of engagements, the UDA delegation is expected to meet President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni on Friday, February 7, 2025.

Museveni is expected to brief UDA on how NRM works, its structures and its achievements in Uganda’s political landscape.

“On Friday, the UDA delegation will be hosted by NRM National Chairman, Uganda President Yoweri Museveni,” UDA revealed.

As part of their tour, they will also visit NRM Leadership Academy. UDA hinted at establishing a similar structure in Kenya after learning how it works and its contribution to political alignments.

“The UDA team is later today expected to be taken on a tour of the NRM Leadership Academy, even as the party plans to put up a similar institution.”

UDA – ANC merger

The meeting in Uganda comes days after UDA merged with the Amani National Congress (ANC) to form the United Democratic Alliance Party.

Under the new formation, President William Ruto remained the party leader while Deputy President Kithure Kindiki and Governor Issa Timamy were named Deputy Party Leaders.
