"I am really sorry": Bishop Kiengei apologises after criticism for comments on Pritty Vishy
Bishop Muthee Kiengei is facing significant backlash after making controversial remarks about content creator Pritty Vishy during a recent interview.
The bishop later issued a public apology on Facebook, acknowledging that he had crossed a line.
In his apology, Bishop Kiengei wrote, "Pritty Vishy, I am really sorry, and I take this moment to highly apologise for mentioning your name in a show where I went overboard and mentioned you in a wrong way.
Please find it in your heart to forgive me for addressing you incorrectly. This will never happen in the future; I take it as my mistake. Pole, my sister."
Pritty Vishy responded to the bishop’s apology on social media, expressing her disappointment and frustration.
"Pastor @bishopbenjcmchurch, I thought you read the Bible? Do you know the verse that says we are all created in the likeness and image of God? Do you have a wife? Daughter? Mother? Do you understand the meaning of respect? Do you show respect to them? What do you preach to your church members?" she questioned.
Vishy also spoke about the embarrassment she experienced due to the bishop's remarks, highlighting the impact on her family.
"How do you feel now that you’ve publicly embarrassed me? Do you realize I have a mother? Do you know how she feels about this?" she wrote.
She then challenged the bishop to repeat his statements in front of his congregation, saying, "Since you were so eager to remind me that I am ugly, unattractive, and fat—let’s meet in your church, stand on that altar before your church members, and repeat every word."
The incident has sparked widespread public reactions, with many questioning the bishop’s behavior.
Winie Mwash commented, "Bishop, you need to repent. You’ve wronged both God and Pritty Vishy. God created us all in His image; no one was made in the likeness of an animal. Saying someone isn’t beautiful is like saying they aren’t human but an animal. Let’s correct that: everyone is beautiful in God’s eyes. And more importantly, a woman's true beauty lies in her character, not her appearance."
Another Facebook user, who identified as a member of Bishop Kiengei's church, expressed concern over his remarks, stating, "Bishop Kiengei's comments about Pritty Vishy were not only inappropriate but also inconsistent with the teachings of compassion, love, and kindness that he preaches. The reputation of our church is now tarnished, not by outsiders, but by its own leader."
