Raheem Sterling transfer to Man Utd would prove he was lying to Liverpool all along
Raheem Sterling would go down in Liverpool estimations still further if he completed a transfer to Manchester United, one which would expose his opportunism.
Raheem Sterling torched his relationship with Liverpool long ago. A proposed move to Manchester United would barely even register, with the former Anfield favorite no longer enjoying any kind of bond with supporters — but it would expose his shameless opportunism.
Of course, Sterling can't be blamed for looking for opportunities right now, with Chelsea having forced his hand. And he won't have his pick of clubs, either, with his form last season in the Premier League leaving much to be desired.
But if he felt any residual respect for Liverpool, Old Trafford would be off limits — Michael Owen, who contributed far more at Anfield than Sterling ever did, has found out exactly how taboo that particular move is. That he would even consider the switch (and talks have been opened, per The Telegraph) makes comments he made back in 2020 look laughable.
